    Frequently Asked Questions about Lip Fillers

    At what age should you get lip fillers?

    This really depends on you and what aesthetic look you are aiming for.

    For example, if you are born with thin lips, and you are looking to have them filled up to create a plumper, more pleasing look, this is unlikely to change without treatment. Most clinics will inject the dermal filler in 18 year olds and upwards, with parental permission being needed for under 18 years.

    How can you tell if someone has lip fillers?

    When done well, to achieve a natural look, it us usually impossible to tell if someone has had fillers. In fact, filler use is probably far more prevalent that you think it is, its just that most men and women in the community have a subtle and natural look.

    On the other hand, when they are overused it can be very easy to tell. Unnaturally large cheekbones, over-filled cheeks, and excessively plump lips are often tell-tale signs, especially when considered together.

    Someone who has over-used lip filler will often have “sausage” like lips, that are stiffer and don’t move as much with speaking, and with obliteration of the cupid’s bow (the dip in your top lip under the nose). Most lip pairs have a naturally larger bottom lip than the top lip, so when this ratio is reversed or at 50/50, it can be a sign that fillers have been used.

    I want to reverse a lip filler, can you do that?

    What should I avoid after lip fillers?

      Do Not:

      • >Massage the area till the day following your treatment
      • Touch the area as this may increase chances of infection
      • Lie down or put pressure on the area you have been injected for at least the next 4h
      • Exercise
      • Drink alcohol
      • Apply makeup

      Please Do:

      • Drink lots of water
      • Watch for any colour changes in the area you were injected especially whiteness. If you have any concerns, please contact the treating medical practitioner.
      • Follow the verbal instructions given to you by your treating medical practitioner.
