Younger Hands in One Dermal Filler Treatment

Father time catches up with us all. As we age, our skin loses its elasticity. Our hands lose volume, veins become more visible, and the sun’s powerful rays dish out blemishes, wrinkles, and sunspots.
At Medical Injectables, we tackle hand rejuvenation on two fronts – with Dermal Fillers and PRP injections.

You can learn more about PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) injections on our Hand Rejuvenation page. Dermal fillers Dermal fillers are aesthetic gel-based cosmetic treatments. They are a non-surgical cosmetic enhancer injected into the skin designed to soften creases and folds, reduce the appearance of wrinkles, and increase or restore volume to skin for a more vibrant and youthful shape.

Dermal Fillers for Hands

Dermal fillers can improve many facets of your hands – most notably they can be used to add volume, hide veins, and give them a youthful appearance. The fillers can be injected into deep creases that produce wrinkles to add volume and give your hands a fuller, younger appearance.

Doses will vary depending on patients and needs and budget. Results will be immediate and follow up sessions may be required until the full effect is reached in the months following the initial procedures. Once the desired appearance has been achieved, patients should expect another treatment after 6 months and then yearly touch-ups thereafter.

In concert with Medical Injectables treating physician, a dermal filler plan will be established to help you budget and manage your expectations correctly.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Do dermal fillers hurt?

As with any procedure, even a minute puncture of the skin is noticeable. To minimise discomfort when the cannula is inserted to facilitate the insertion of the dermal filler, we employ a local anaesthetic prior. A local anaesthetic within the dermal filler further decreases pain and mitigates the risk of bruising.

How long do dermal fillers last?

Results may vary depending on the type of fillers used and where they are injected. With hand filler treatments, once you’ve achieved the look you’re after, expect an initial touch up at 6 months and then a yearly visit to maintain your hands’ youthful appearance.

    What happens during the treatment?

We numb the area with anaesthetic cream, then we make several injections with the dermal filler.

Expect the entire procedure to take as little as 15 minutes.

    Possible side effects
    • Swelling at the injection area site will last approximately 48 hours and you might experience some bruising.
    • Occasionally, asymmetry may occur with one hand responding better to treatment than the other. Touch ups may be needed to even things out.
    • In very rare cases, an infection may result from the incision into the skin. It’s a possibility, and we take every precaution to avoid it, but it is a risk when puncturing the skin with a needle.
    • Vascular occlusion is a possible, though an unlikely side effect.
    Aftercare

After your procedure, you’ll want to avoid:

    • Heavy exercise on the day (and no free weights for a week)
    • Spas, saunas, hot tubs or hot yoga
    • Exfoliants or coarse soaps you may apply with your hands
